The best pillow filler

Everyone will probably agree that pillows have the greatest influence on the quality of sleep. But choosing a pillow nowadays is complicated. Manufacturers offer a wide variety of products, but few buyers know the real difference between the fillers used. That’s why we’re here to help you. We will talk about which cushion to choose and the differences between the materials they are made of.

Viscoelastic pillow

You may have seen modern wavy pillows – they are viscoelastic. These pillows come in different sizes and shapes, but what makes them special is that their filling is designed to support your head and neck. Viscoelastic pillows can be hard or soft, depending on whether their surface is smooth or profiled.

Viscoelastic pillows have small air channels in the filling, so the air circulates better during sleep. Not everyone loves these pillows, but fans admit they wouldn’t want another pillow, either. They are comfortable and suitable for people with many ailments, such as osteochondrosis, radiculitis, back and neck pain.

Please note that viscoelastic pillows are made of hard or padded material. Despite this difference, the pillow’s ability to adapt to the position of the neck, head and shoulders remains. The only difference is that you can change the amount of filling and therefore the height of the pillow.

Cotton cushion

These pillows have excellent air conductivity, so they are not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter, so they will provide year-round comfort. It is also very hygienic and resistant to bacteria. However, special attention should be paid to quality. Otherwise the cushion may discolor quickly. However, products from reliable manufacturers can last for many years.

Feather pillow

Down pillows were once very popular, but nowadays there are great alternatives. Mites live in these pillows and cause allergies. Therefore, herbal and synthetic fillers are considered superior.

First, down pillows are made from goose or duck down. They are soft and fluffy, but if you add feathers to the filling it becomes hard. The ratio varies and the firmness of the pillow depends on this. These pillows are very comfortable, but can cause allergies and require special care to avoid dust mites. Also, don’t choose cheap options. A bad outer fabric will lack fluff and you will feel the sharp tips of the feathers.

Bamboo cushion

The soft bamboo cushion is extremely comfortable to use. This fiber reduces perspiration, so you stay cool, comfortable and dry while you sleep. The natural plant-derived bamboo fiber also has antibacterial properties and is free of bacteria, mold and fungi. This feature makes bamboo pillows particularly suitable for people with allergies. Also, do not forget that bamboo pillows absorb moisture well and evaporate quickly. This is especially useful for people who sleep well, suffer from allergies or suffer from temperature changes during sleep.

Polyester cushion

When in doubt about how to choose a pillow, some turn to polyester. However, this is completely useless! It is a modern synthetic fabric with excellent properties. These cushions are easy to maintain, the polyester fiber balls are elastic, soft and maintain their properties for a long time. True, such pillows can harden over time, but this usually happens due to improper care.

Another strong point in favor of polyester-filled cushions is their excellent value for money. In addition, modern polyester also competes with natural cotton in its properties, but it is much more elastic and fluffy, which makes it more durable and washable.

Microfibre cushion
Many people choose pillows with microfiber filling because they are very soft and fluffy and have hypoallergenic properties. Ticks cannot live in them. In fact, microfiber pillows are sometimes called down pillows because they feel like down.

However, microfiber pillows are low and soft. If you prefer firmer, taller pillows, look for pillows filled with microfiber balls. These pillows are quite soft, but microfiber pillows tend to be larger because the larger fill particles give them firmness.

How to choose a pillow?

You don’t need to spend a lot of money on pillows to get a good night’s sleep. Let’s take a look at the features of the pillows. You can find a lot of information on our page. We will then evaluate your needs: preferred pillow height, usual sleeping position, etc. This will make the choice much easier and help you find the right pillow the first time.

We recommend changing your pillow every 12-24 months. This ensures convenience and cleanliness. Within two years many fibers wear out and lose their original properties. This is a completely natural process. However, the worst thing is that pillows generate germs, accumulate dust and other dirt, especially when they are not washed properly, and this ultimately affects the quality of sleep: it causes allergic symptoms, the pillow acquires a bad odor, etc.
