Overlocking is a sewing technique that joins two pieces of fabric together by cutting the edges and wrapping them with chain thread. This ensures a protection against fraying and gives fabric edges a clean, professional finish.

How does an overlock machine work?

Just like a normal sewing machine, the overlocker is equipped with a needle, feed and presser foot. On the other hand, its mechanism is much more complex:

• THE upper knife trim the edges of the fabric as you sew;
• THE lower knife guide the layers of fabric and form a loop with the chain thread;
• THE’Aug passes through the layers of fabric and passes through the loop of thread, thus completing the stitching;
• THE upper looper then wrap the thread around the cut edges of the fabric and forming a hem;
• THE lower looper lock the assembly to secure the wires.
